Winter Activities Near Shoshone Rose

Just because it’s cold outside, it doesn’t mean that you can’t get out and enjoy the natural beauty of Wind River Country in Central Wyoming. There are several winter activities that you can partake in near Shoshone Rose Casino & Hotel. Whether you are looking for a relaxing outing or a strenuous challenge, you can get it here in Wind River Country. Be sure to wear the appropriate clothing and be prepared for your outdoor adventure. 

Nordic and Cross-Country Skiing

The Beaver Creek Nordic Ski Area offers over six miles of groomed loops that are ideal for intermediate to advanced skiers. The area is prepped for classic and skate skiing. These trails offer a quiet and beautiful outing in winter Wyoming. The Lander Golf Course offers easier skiing trails and also sledding hills for the kids. The Lander Nordic Ski Association maintains the Beaver Creek and Lander Golf Course trails.

The hiking trails at Sinks Canyon State Park are open to skiers, hikers, pets, sleds, snowshoes and more. You can also go off-trail to chart your own course. There are bathrooms available at the park.

Fat Biking

Fat biking is the new kid on the winter block, but it’s gaining popularity fast! It’s a great way to explore Wind River Country for experienced and recreational cyclists.

Sinks Canyon State Park has the most popular fat biking tracks near Lander. Start from the Sinks Canyon Campground parking lot and explore the network of trails that pattern the northern side of the canyon.

Johnny Behind the Rocks (JBR) is a popular mountain biking spot that can also be utilized for fat biking.

The most accessible option for exploring this new sport is the Lander Golf Course. A new 2.5-mile packed loop was created for fat biking, walking, and snowshoeing. Please keep the bikes off of the ski-only trails.

Snowmobiling

Wind River Country features a remote section of the famous Continental Divide Snowmobile Trail. There are groomed and off-trail routes through forests of pine, below towering peaks, across sagebrush plains, and even to the very top of the Continental Divide on Togwotee Pass, but he self-guided adventurer can navigate with highly visible signs and maps through the area.

Snowshoeing

Travel by snowshoe can take you into the Wind River Range on hiking trails covered by snow or across the high mountain deserts.

Dog Sledding

A little farther away, but worth the trip, is Continental Divide Dog Sled Adventures. They offer tours through the Teton and Shoshoni National Forests that surround Jackson Hole, Wyoming and the Greater Yellowstone Area. Iditarod veteran Billy Snodgrass owns and operates the company.
