Hit the Trail and Take a Hike


Shoshone Rose Casino & Hotel is situated in central Wyoming’s scenic Wind River Country. The area offers many options for hikers and explorers of all ages and abilities to enjoy. Diverse wildlife and fauna, stunning waterfalls, and breathtaking vistas are just some of the features that will greet you along the path. Here we offer some of our favorite nearby hiking trails and areas to explore – most less than 30 minutes for our location.

Be sure to plan for your hikes by bringing along proper gear and water, and also by informing somebody where you plan to trek.

Sinks Canyon State Park

Sinks Canyon State Park is in Lander and offers several trails that can accommodate all levels and ages of hikers looking to enjoy the natural beauty of this magnificent area.

The Popo Agie Nature Trail within Sinks Canyon State Park is about a mile long loop, but there are other trails that link up if you want to go farther. This is a great trail to take your kids on a family hike. Signs along the way explain the area’s geology, flora and fauna.

Popo Agie Falls Trail

Looking for a place to cool off on your hike? Popo Agie Falls Trail offers a natural rock slide and pool where you can take a dip. This trail is good for kids and is pet friendly, including our equestrian friends. The trail is a three-mile round trip, but there are options to make it a longer trip. You can feed the big fish in the pool, but there is no fishing allowed.

 

Middle Fork Trail

Middle Fork Trail is about three and a half miles long a features a lake. This is good trail for all skill levels and is accessible from July until September.

Young’s Mountain

At Young’s Mountain, there’s no official trail, but you are free to roam up to the summit that offers amazing views.

Worthen Meadows

Worthen Meadows offers several options for every type of hike, from a short day hike to Roaring Fork Lake, to overnight camping an intense elevation gains that reward you with beautiful views of the Wind River Mountain Range.

Oregon Buttes

The Oregon Buttes don’t have an official trail, but you can easily find a way up and down. There are elk and wild horses in the area, so you may be fortunate enough to see these majestic animals in the wild.

Red Canyon Rim

This is a great place to go exploring off the beaten path. Red Canyon Rim features many interesting geological features to scout. If you visit in the spring, you can enjoy the wonderful wild flowers, but this area is great to visit year-round.

Christina Lake

The trail to Christina Lake is an eight mile round trip, so plan for a longer trip at about 10,000 feet elevation in the Wind River Mountain Range.

Honeycomb Buttes

A beautiful landscape of gray and pinkish badlands, the Honeycomb Buttes provide exploration opportunities that include rockhounding, nontechnical climbing on the clay and rocky buttes, spelunking and wildlife and outdoor photography.
